SEZ Spotlight Hyderabad Leads The Way

investors. Now, it is the Special Economic Zones (SEZ) that are attracting investor
attention.

Hyderabad has a slew of SEZs earmarked in and around the city. Of these, many are
dedicated to special segments like IT, gems and jewels and education. The vacant
land in localities around these notified SEZs is much in demand and real estate
builders are consolidating their land banks.

Wipro has taken up land in SEZ region in Vattinagaulapalli. The IT giant plans to
set up its campus here. The company has taken up 40.46 hectares of vacant land
there. Construction work is in full swing as the company wants to furnish this
campus soon and cash in on the first mover advantage in this region. This is Wipro\'s
second SEZ near Guchibowli.

Many notable IT firms have lined up their plans for Hyderabad. Cognizant Technology
Solutions has acquired nine acres of land in the IT SEZ. The company plans to invest
in building a 500,000 square feet facility in the SEZ to create capacity for 5,000
new employees. Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) has also acquired 75 acres of land at
Adibatla. TCS has an understanding with the state government to develop IT facility
at the Andhra Pradesh Industrial Infrastructure Corporation (APIIC).

Besides this, there have been some developments in the Gems SEZ as well. Geetanjali
Group is developing this SEZ on 200 acres of land near Shamshabad. The company has
lined investments worth Rs 500 crore for this project.

US-based Georgia Tech university has entered into an special agreement with the
state government to develop the education SEZ focusing on research and industrial
collaboration. The university has also sought 250 acres of land in Hyderabad. The
university aims to set up the campus by 2009.
